WE’RE TRYING SOMETHING NEW AT MAYFIELD CHURCH
Mark Your Calendar for “Defining Moments Sunday”: January 29, 2012

Over the past few years, we have asked leaders and interested others to gather over a Friday evening and Saturday morning for leadership planning, goal setting and information-sharing. It’s been a profitable time and one of the most important events in our ministry each year. But it’s also been a bit difficult, asking leaders and families to maneuver and navigate schedules over two days.

So – this year – we’re moving it into one big day, with some special features and opportunities. We’re calling it Defining Moments Sunday – and wrapping around prayer, Sunday worship, lunch and an afternoon of motivation and vision.

Our schedule that Sunday will be familiar – yet with a conference-style format. Our worship schedule will remain the same and each service will keep its original time, focus and format, but different preacher(s) will lead each hour.

• 8:00 a.m. (Session One) – will be a Service of Prayer and Holy Communion led by Pastors Scott, Jan and Bruce. (Pastors Jan and Bruce – would you consider doing a dialogue message together for this hour?) In good Wesleyan fashion and heritage, this gathering will serve as a preparatory hour for what will occur throughout the rest of the day as the Holy Spirit leads.
• 9:30 a.m. Modern Worship (Session Two) – will be led by Brian Otte and his team, along with our pastoral staff and guest preacher of the hour, David Scavuzzo, our District Superintendent. Pastor Scavuzzo’s message will be: “Defining Moments: Mayfield Church’s Potential in Christ.”
• 11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship (Session Three) – will be led by Katie Drossos, Carol Neff and the Chancel Choir, along with Pastor Scavuzzo and our staff. Pastor Scott will be the preacher of the hour. His message will be: “Defining Moments: What We’re Really Up Against.”
• 12:15 p.m. – Lunch
• 1:00-2:15 p.m. (Session Four) – “Defining Moments: Five I Don’t Know’s for Honest Church Leaders” – led by Pastor Scavuzzo and Pastor Scott
• 2:30-3:30 p.m. (Closing Session) – “A Q&A with Your Pastors and the DS – about what realities and defining moments are facing us as the United Methodist Church.”

It will be a big Sunday – so we ask you to find your place in this schedule! Leaders at every level of our church are encouraged to be part of every session. All others have the option of attending their worship service of choice – plus also, being part of any or every session.

Now – just a few specifics – so we’re all on the same page…

1. This schedule will not interfere with any NFL fanatics – as January 29 is the week between the playoffs and the Super Bowl.
2. Childcare will be available – but reservations must be received by January 15.
3. Lunch reservations are always a great help – so watch for the opportunity.
4. I can’t stress enough the need for leaders to engage in the process and spirit of this day.
