Scott Wilson is our senior pastor. He arrived in July 2009 after serving nearly 30 years in parish ministry at churches in Louisville, Bucyrus and Norton. Scott was born in Canton and graduated from Canton South High School. He received his bachelor or arts degree in recreation from Malone College, his master of divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and his doctorate of ministry from Ashland Theological Seminary. His gifts are preaching, teaching, equipping leaders for ministry and wearing funny ties. Scott is married to Babs, a registered nurse, and they have two adult children, Erin and Benjamin. When not at the church or the parsonage, you can find him ruminating about life at Panera, Barnes & Noble or Progressive Field.

Jan Fillmore is our associate pastor. She joined our staff in 2007 after receiving her master of divinity degree from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. Jan coordinates adult education and new member discipleship. She also assists in preaching, teaching, visitation and administration. Her passion is interfaith education and cooperation. Jan likes to travel (Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Russia for mission trips), read, garden and play fetch with Puck, her border collie.

Bruce Becker is our deacon working with youth and young adult ministries. He also helps organize many of our outreach missions. Bruce started full-time youth ministry in 1998. He has a health and physical education degree from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in Christian education from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. “Youth and young adult ministry is still a great passion of mine,” he says, “and it helps me to feel young. Anyone up for a lock-in or an M&M shooting contest?”

Megann Nyman, is our children and family ministries director. She coordinates and supervises all of the children’s Sunday morning classes, the nursery on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. She is a graduate of Old Dominion University, with a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies, teacher prep and a master’s in elementary education pre to 6th grade. She has a heart for children and believes in the importance of children having a strong foundation in biblical knowledge and faith.

Stacy Becker is our children and family ministries coordinator. She has a degree in speech and language pathology with a specialty in elementary education and a minor degree in psychology. Her primary areas of ministry involve children and families with children from birth to sixth grade. Stacy is married to the cute (at least she thinks so) director of youth and young adult ministries at Mayfield. They keep busy trying to keep up with their three growing children and beagle, Max.

Betsy Virnelson is our parish nurse. Since 1990, she has coordinated the care ministries, organizing teams of volunteers who minister to people who are hospitalized or homebound; facilitates grief and Alzheimer’s support groups; as well as making visits to hospitals and nursing homes. Betsy also coordinates Mayfield’s prayer ministries – her special passion. She and her husband, Craig, love to spend time with their two grown sons and four granddaughters, travel the world and take photos.

Patty Wenzel is our director of Heartland Childcare Center. The faith-based preschool and school-age program began in 2005; Patty brought 20 years of early childhood education to the ministry when she joined the staff in 2006. She has one son in college and two teenage sons, and says she enjoys attending all of her boys’ sporting events.

Carol Neff has been our organist since 1987. She directs the children’s and teen choirs, is interim director of the adult choir and also rings bells. Carol is the accompanist for the middle and elementary choirs at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, and teaches private lessons in piano, flute and organ. She is married to Brian, her high school sweetheart, and they have two adult sons, Adam and Matthew, who live in the area.

Katie Drossos is our Chancel Choir director and the most recent addition to our staff. She has studied vocal music performance at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music as well as music education at Baldwin-Wallace College, where she is pursuing her degree. Katie has sung in choirs since childhood, and she plays the piano, organ, guitar and hand bells. When it comes to directing, Katie says, “Leading a choir partners the two passions in my life — the musical side and the spiritual side.”

Brian Otte is our Director of Worship Ministries. He has been on staff since 2006, serving as the worship leader for our modern worship service as well as coordinating our behind the scenes planning and production teams. He is a reality TV junky, a music lover, a bookworm, a self-proclaimed “amateur” graphic designer, a huge Apple fanboy and an all around tech geek. With a heart for evangelism his greatest desire is to see people pursue God with passion and zeal, living out the words of 1 Peter 3:15. Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in public communication from Kent State University and a master’s degree in biblical studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Kim Walter is our Coordinator of Connecting Ministries. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Ohio University. She worked as an Interior Designer before making a career change to be a full-time Mom to her two young sons. After several years of volunteerism within the church she joined the staff in January of 2012. She shares her gifts of hospitality and administration by connecting people within the church to one another and our various ministries. In her free time she enjoys exercising, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Sue Bocian is our administrative assistant. She makes sure all contributions and disbursements are accurately recorded. Sue reports to the Administrative Board, the Executive and Stewardship committees, and the Finance Team. She also coordinates fellowship hour, the welcome desk, ushers and greeters. Sue has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and says she is blessed to be on staff since 1992.

Lynne Pistillo is our communications coordinator. She strives to bring the congregation and the community all the happenings at Mayfield in the most innovative and creative ways possible. Lynne, a fine arts graduate of Miami University, has been on staff since 2005. She and her husband, Mike, enjoy working in their yard and spending time with family.
Dennis Bregar is our head custodian. He coordinates our lawn-care volunteers and supervises two other part-time custodians in the daily clean-up and set-up for our day-care, classes and community groups. Dennis joined our staff in 1998. He spends his free time with his wife, Janet, and their three teenagers. He says he doesn’t currently have a hobby: “My biggest pleasure is doing what I do here.”
