An Update from Our Pastors…

posted on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 7:45 AM

We all have heard the daily news: Our leaders continue to urge us to “shelter in place” and to “Stay Home/Save Lives” as we live into the reality of “social distancing” so that we can “flatten the curve” of new coronavirus cases. (I am learning the language, but it still sounds strange, unfamiliar.)

Bishop Tracy S. Malone and the cabinet sent this message to pastors late this week: “We strongly urge all of our United Methodist Churches to suspend in-person worship until we hear that it is safe to gather again … This means that churches need to plan creative ways to worship and share the good news for our coming Holy Week and Easter season as well as regular worship, weddings, and funerals.”

Since our worship services are on hiatus you might suggest congregation members watch and/or record the Masterpiece Theater six-part series on Les Miserables that starts this Sunday, March 22, at 4 pm on WVIZ/PBS.

Another suggestion is to watch the outstanding Gospel of John movie.  I’ve watched it multiple times and used it in a series of classes with the Seekers. The movie’s narration and dialogue uses only the exact wording from the Gospel as found in the NIV Bible and the visuals vividly portray the life and times of Jesus. The movie is available on line for free at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdYaHZHMGDM

We will continue to look for your ideas on how you are coping creatively with this coronavirus pandemic according to the faith, hope, and love we share in Christ Jesus. You may never know how our Lord will use your experience and resourcefulness to help others stand strong and courageous.

May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace! (Psalm 29:11)

Pastor Jim

Announcements

At this time, no one will be able to enter the church building except for “essential” staff. Thanks to Steve Vegel, everything is sanitized and we need to limit the amount of contact. All FOBS will be disconnected until everything is reinstated.

Prayer Requests: If you have any prayer requests or personal concerns, you can share these requests by emailing prayers@mayfieldchurch.org

Events:  Activities and events at the church are canceled until further notice. Sunday worship will be online.

Our Mayfield staff is offering short video devotions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Cyndi Nicholson, Anne Parker, the Stephen Ministry Team, and the Home Visitation Ministry Team are making calls to every church member, checking in and staying connected. We will do this again during Holy Week. Praise God for this call ministry!

Timothy Project Help Needed…We still need about 20 more adults to pray for our middle school and high school students until the end of the semester. If you can help, please see Adam Vodicka or fill out a form from the display board in the Main Hallway and return it to the Welcome Desk. Our students need you!

We want to help make connections with those who need help with groceries and assistance.  Please email Cyndi Nicholson at cyndi@mayfieldchurch.org if you would like to be connected with someone from our church that can help. For those who are able to offer assistance, please email Anne Parker at anne@mayfieldchurch.org with your name and the city you live in.
