Multigenerational Church
If you’ve attended Mayfield United Methodist Church for long enough, you’ll quickly learn that many people you meet are related or interconnected in some way. As the director of children’s ministries, it’s fun to introduce preschoolers to their Sunday School teacher, my mom, Sue. You’ve probably met my dad, Bart, who helps with our church building and property. My brother enjoys helping in the tech booth, and my sister enjoys helping Chuck Fazio with karate during the school year. My grandparents (Will and Georgie) lead God’s Caring Community and attend the traditional service, and my husband and kids attend the modern service. Four generations spread across two services – and we aren’t the only multigenerational family here. The Nelsons- Simmelinks, Pattersons, Rautenbergs and Strieff-Wilterdink families are a few others you may know in addition to more than 10 other families with at least three generations attending Mayfield Church. Our multigenerational families not only worship together but also serve alongside each other. For instance, Dennis Nelson is usually accompanied by one of his grandkids to help with Sunday School and VBS. Many of the Nelsons, including Dennis, Nancy, and Denny in particular, have helped organize and lead Camp Aldersgate together, year after year. Their grandchildren and nieces / nephews attend Camp Aldersgate and it’s a beautiful week to witness multi-generations growing together in their faith. Throughout the week you might also see the Rautenbergs restocking the food panty, youth group and helping in Stepping Stones or the Pattersons greeting and helping with Fellowship hour. There is no shortage of several generations who make up part of church that help be the hands and feet of Jesus on Sunday mornings and behind the scenes throughout the week. Being a part of a multigenerational church is a true blessing, and I’m so grateful to be a part of four generations that attend Mayfield Church! Jess Martz

OUR COMMUNITY
Mayfield Church consists of a diverse group of people. If you have questions of faith or never known Jesus, we want you to experience, “Jesus knows and loves you, do you want to know and love him? Come join us on the journey.” We honor tradition while embracing change, and we value reason as much as experience.
United Methodist Believe
United Methodists affirm the historic Christian faith as summarized in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.
What it means to be a United Methodist
A United Methodist is a Christian who has professed faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, put his or her whole trust in Christ’s grace and promised to serve him as Lord as a member of The United Methodist Church, a worldwide church that welcomes persons of all ages, nations and races.
